Beware of fast talking con man

A fast-talking door-to-door contractor has caught the attention of the Kelowna RCMP after some funny-business earlier this week.

This past Sunday, RCMP received a report of an aggressive door-to-door contractor in the 1200 block of Brookside Avenue.

The man was offering his services to residents of an apartment complex that does not allow solicitation. When questioned, he became confrontational and refused to provide contact information for his business.

Police located the man and issued him a fine under the City bylaws as he does not have a business licence.

The 45-year-old Vernon man, who is well known to police, has a history of canvassing door-to-door to provide maintenance services such as dryer vent cleaning.

He may try to misrepresent himself, claiming to be authorized by the Strata or apartment manager to do the work.

Once inside your home, he may become confrontational as it becomes apparent he is not necessarily there to do the work.

The man is described as Caucasian, 5'7" and 190lbs with a shaved head and brown moustache. The vehicle associated to him may be white 2004 Chevy Van.

Residents are reminded not to let strange contractors into their homes and to confirm with their strata or apartment manager before allowing any work to be performed.
