Barley Mill held up at knifepoint

A 37-year-old Penticton man is in custody in connection with an armed robbery at the Barley Mill Beer and Wine Store in Penticton Saturday.

Police say a man entered the store on Skaha Lake Road shortly before 6 p.m. and demanded cash from the till.

He was brandishing a serrated, wooden handled knife and threatened to stab and hurt the cashier if she did not cooperate.

The suspect took the cash from the till and a 12-pack from the cooler before departing in a white car.

A witness was able to get the licence plate number of the vehicle, however, police determined the vehicle had been stolen earlier that day. It has since been recovered.

Through subsequent investigation, police were able to identify a suspect. He was arrested at 11 a.m. Sunday morning walking in the 3000 block of Main Street.

Charges of robbery and theft of a motor vehicle are being recommended.

Anyone with information on this incident are asked to contact Penticton RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
