Vipers cruise past Trail
Nov 4, 2012 / 11:40 am
The Vernon Vipers shot early and often at the Trail Smoke Eaters and it paid off in a 9-2 BCHL win Saturday night.
Vernon opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game.
Trail's hasty clearing attempt out of their own zone was picked off by Ryan Renz who set up Brett Corkey for a 1-0 lead.
Jedd Soleway added to the lead at 10:25, banking a shot off Lyndon Stanwood’s right pad from behind the extended goal line.
Mitch McAllister then registered his first BCHL goal to make it 3-0 after one period.
Vernon poured on the pressure in the second period, scoring four more goals.
Jedd Soleway, Trail native Craig Martin, Mike Roberts and Adam Tambellini all scored.
Mike Foyle got Trail on the board with five seconds left in the second, making it 7-1.
Pearce Eviston and Logan Mick rounded out the Vipers' scoring, while Adam Wheeldon scored Trail's only other marker with three seconds left.
The two teams will meet again on Friday, November 9, in Vernon.
