A family friend described breaking up more than one fight at the Peachland house party where Ashlee Hyatt died.

The woman gave her testimony on the fifth day of the murder trial for the young woman accused of stabbing to death Hyatt at a party on San Clemente Avenue on June 2, 2010.

The accused is not identified because she was a juvenile at the time of the offence.

The witness said she and her husband and another man were driving back from Westbank to Peachland that evening when they decided to drop in at the home, where her good friend and daughters lived.

Her intention was to help one of the teen daughters with a fitting for a graduation dress. Instead she stumbled on a  group of teenagers who had obviously been drinking.

"I expected it to take 10 minutes, but there were a bunch of kids and it looked like there was a scuffle going on,  a couple of boys fighting on the deck, rolling around. I saw a bottle of whiskey and could smell it. They weren't drunk, drunk, but not feeling any pain."

The fight stopped when her husband appeared on the scene and she shouted for the rest of the kids to "get the hell out."

As most of the boys started leaving, the teen who lived in the house told her to f.....off, but the accused said  she was glad she was there, because a guy was coming on to her and her boyfriend was there.

The boyfriend was heard saying at one point, "see what you have done,  you will have all of Penticton after me" to the accused.

Once the boys left, the remaining girls were shoving and pushing each other. Hyatt was calling the accused names like 'skank' and 'ho' and showing attitude, accusing her of cheating on her boyfriend.

"They were both pushing each other and the accused was saying no, no I didn't," she said. "I was focusing on one fight at a time."

Her husband who testified earlier in the day described a similar chaotic scene. He and the other man, who he said was a worker in his orchard, planned to leave and get another car, so his wife could remain there to supervise the teens.

As they left the house he saw two girls standing, facing each other. One girl had a knife in her right hand and the other girl was saying "drop the knife," and "you stabbed my friend," he said.

The witness walked up, grabbed the wrist of the girl who had the knife, took it out of her hand, folded it up and put it in his pocket.

As the girls continued struggling, he went to the girl who was lying down on the shoulder of the road.

"I recognized her as the girl who was calling the other girl a skank on the deck. She was motionless, breathing very lightly, pale and there was a wound on the right side of her neck," he said.

To staunch the blood flow he picked up a shirt that was there and applied as much pressure as he could.

During the cross examination, the defence suggested the two girls fighting in the street were the accused and the teen who was hosting the party. At the time, the witness, who tried to break up the fight along with his wife and the man who was with them, said he wasn't clear on who was who.

The trial is expected to continue on Friday.
