The Regional District is about to begin its fall water main flushing program.
The work is scheduled to take place during November affecting customers of the Sunset Ranch water system. Environmental Services staff will be flushing mains between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Roadside notice boards are put up in advance of working in the system area. It's important to flush water mains on a regular basis to ensure optimum water quality and remove any sediment deposits that may accumulate over time.
"When flushing is taking place, water pressure can vary slightly and there may be some slight discoloration in the water. Please check your water prior to use. We recommend that you avoid doing laundry when flushing is taking place on your system. If you experience discoloration, run the cold water tap until the water runs clear," says RDCO Communications Director, Bruce Smith.
Customers will find more information and answers to questions they might have about the Regional District Water Main Flushing Program on the Water Systems webpage www.regionaldistrict.com/water.
In addition through the month of November, RDCO staff will be doing maintenance work on fire hydrants in the Killiney Beach and Westshore water system areas.
Customers on these two systems may experience minor short-term water quality and pressure changes while this hydrant work is underway.
As with overall system flushing, running the cold water tap will remove any discoloration.
The Regional District water systems service more than 900 customers in the following areas: Falcon Ridge, Killiney Beach, Sunset Ranch, Star Place/Trepanier, Westshore and Upper Fintry, Shalal Road and Valley of the Sun.
