2014 Brier coming to Kamloops
The 2014 Brier is coming to Kamloops.
The Canadian Curling Association announced Tuesday morning the Brier will be held at Interior Savings Centre.
"Kamloops has established itself as a fantastic host city for sporting events, hence its nickname 'The Tournament Capital," says Canadian Curling Association CEO, Greg Stremlaw.
"This city is well positioned to host the world's premier men's curling event and with the provincial support it brought to the table, we couldn't be more pleased to award the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier to the City of Kamloops."
The province has pledged to kick in $100,000 to support the event with an additional $100,000 coming from the BC Lottery Corporation.
The City of Kamloops and Kamloops Tourism each put up $50,000.
Kamloops Mayor, Peter Milobar, says the Brier is expected to generate about $5M for the local economy.
The city last hosted the Brier in 1996.
The 2013 event will be held in Edmonton.
