'Zach-attack' leads Rockets charge
Zach Franko is starting to deliver on the promise he showed as a raw rookie two seasons ago.
The 19-year-old Winnipeg native netted his eighth and ninth goals of the season and added an assist Sunday leading the Kelowna Rockets to a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Hitmen.
Franko, who scored 22 goals in his rookie campaign slipped to just 14 a year ago.
He's on pace to challenge the magical 50 goal plateau.
Sunday's output gives Franko seven goals and 13 points over the Rockets 10 games in October.
Dylen McKinley with his sixth and Colton Sissons with his ninth into an empty net also scored for the Rockets.
Jordon Cooke stopped 21 of 22 shots directed his way, allowing only a first period goal from Brendan Hurley.
Calgary led 1-0 after one period despite managing just three shots on goal.
The Rockets would take control of the game from there scoring twice in the second and two more in the third.
Kelowna outshot Calgary 30-22 on the night.
Sunday's win allowed the Rockets to take five of a possible eight points from their four game Alberta road swing going 2-1-0-1.
They head home now to begin a four game homestand, their longest stretch of home games so far this season.
In fact, the Rockets play eight of 11 games in November on home ice.
The Rockets will have their hands full when they take up residence again at Prospera Place as they host the unbeaten Kamloops Blazers Thursday night.
The Blazers enter the week 14-0-0-1 and riding a 12 game winning streak.
