Housing linked to cost of living

To the editor:

I think the mayor needs to look at the bigger picture regarding cost of living in Kelowna and BC in general.

It is one thing to throw numbers out for housing and taxes on housing however he needs to look at the amount of money people make working in addition to the hours of work.

Most jobs here are part time and pay less than the cities that be mentioned.

With wages being lower and most jobs being part time it makes it very difficult to make it in Kelowna.

Taxes are higher on income in BC, we have the PST, or HST that drives the cost of products up and eats away at disposable income.

Most employers here take advantage of employees knowing work is scarce here so they will pay less and expect more from workers.

I grew up here but moved to Alberta to make a life and now I have returned.

I'm fortunate that I still work in Alberta for a decent wage because I notice the extra taxes and cost of fuel eating away at my disposable income.
