A 'serge' in medals

Twelve member of the Vernon RCMP detachment were recently honoured at a ceremony in Vernon.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police “E” Division Queen’s Jubilee Medals & Long Service Awards Ceremony was held a the Prestige Inn, awarding 135 medals and pins to officers.
Vernon RCMP members receiving Queen's Jubilee Medals:
- Sup. Reg Burgess
- Auxiliary Cst Dale Fennell
- Insp. Jim McNamara
- Sgt. Dave Evans
- Cpl Mark Taylor
- Cpl. Trevor Tribes
- Cst. Jonathan Klassen
Long service medals were also presented, including:
- Cpl. Gerry Kovacs - 20 year long service medal
- Sgt. Rob Daly (QDJM) - 25 year Bronze Clasp
- Cst. Frank Grenierr - 25 year Bronze Clasp
- Sgt. Keith Ferguson - 30 Year Silver Clasp
- Sgt. Bruce Robertson (Retired) - 30 year Silver Clasp
The commemorative medals are used to mark important anniversaries and other great occasions. In keeping with this tradition the Diamond Jubilee medal of the Queen commemorates the 60th anniversary of her majesty’s reign as queen of Canada.
“The RCMP was allotted 2,300 medals to award to deserving regular and civilian members, 136 pubic service employees, 64 to be presented to Auxiliaries throughout Canada. This provided the force the opportunity to recognize some of the tremendous work our employees are doing every day while contributing to a better and safer Canada,” said Staff Sergeant Don Smawley
