Oct 21, 2012 / 2:04 pm
Okanagan Rockets defenceman Joe Gatenby has been named to the U16 Team BC for the upcoming Western Cananda U16 Challenge Cup to be held in Calgary Alberta from November 1 to 4.
Gatenby has appeared in 8 BC Major Midget Hockey League games for the Rockets and has registered 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points.
Gatenby was selected in the 2nd round of the WHL bantam draft by the Kelowna Rockets.
"We are proud of Joe's accomplishments to date, and making Team BC is another feather in his cap," says Rockets general manager David Michaud.
"Joe has been a pleasure to work with this season and we wish him and all of Team BC luck in the Challenge Cup, it will be a great experience for Joe and hopefully the 1st step of many to come in his high performance career with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada."
The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will feature the highest rated players in the Under 16 age category representing BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The four team round robin format is the first step in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence and assists the four Western Provincial Hockey Associations in evaluating these top prospects in this age group for the future high performance programs.
