Suspicious fire destroys shed
A storage shed in the 100 block of Dougall Road North was destroyed by what fire officials are calling a suspicious fire.
The fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday night.
Upon arrival, Kelowna Fire Department crews found a storage shed adjacent to the back ally that was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had extended to the rear fence and a tree.
Kelowna fire crews responded with a command vehicle, two engines, a rescue truck and a safety vehicle, with 12 personnel.
RCMP were on scene and an ambulance vehicle arrived shortly after to assist.
Platoon Captain, Henry Roelofs says initial fire control was quickly accomplished by the first arriving engine company and they were also able to extinguish the fence and tree fire.
"The fire had consumed most of the shed and had burned the interior contents to consider it a total loss," says Roelofs.
"The occupants of the residence were home at the time but unaware of the fire till a passer-by knocked on the door. There were no injuries as a result of the fire."
The fire is at present , suspicious. Damage is estimated at in excess of $20,000.
Back on October 22, 2010, arsonists set five fires in the Gray and Dougall road areas. A lean-to structure, a carport and a boat were among the items targeted.
Two weeks later a semi tractor, in the 200 block of Dougall Road North was set ablaze.
In January of last year, a shed was set on fire in the 200 block of Dougall Road North.
To date, no arrests have been made.
