Recyclepedia app axes waste
Oct 18, 2012 / 3:29 pm
The voice of Okanagan-Similkameen is offering a green application to help residents reduce waste as part of reduction week Oct. 18-21.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) encourages residents to try Recyclepedia, a web application designed to get people to recycle small household items at select drop-off locations.
“The Recyclepedia website or mobile app is a quick and convenient way for people to know where they can take products and materials,” explains Cameron Baughen, RDOS solid waste management coordinator.
“An added benefit is that it's constantly updated with new programs and changes.”
The RDOS says that starting this year, almost all appliances, electrical devices, and lighting equipment can now be taken to some local businesses for free recycling.
Current district recycling programs have expanded from bottle return programs to include small appliances, power tools, batteries, electronics, mercury switches, medicine, and lighting equipment.
To use Recyclepedia or to download one of the free apps, residents can visit the Recycling Council of BC website. For more information on local recycling programs, contact the RDOS Solid Waste Department at 250-490-4129, toll free at 1-877-610-3737, ext. 4129, email info@rdos.bc.ca, or visit the district website.
Recyclepedia is a creation of the Recycling Council of BC.
