Seminar presentations part of 2012 Okanagan College Career Fair

Exhibitors are already signing up tp provide public seminars as part of this year's Career Fair taking place at Okanagan College's Kelowna campus Sunday, Nov. 4.

“We’ve decided to offer exhibitors a chance to conduct their own seminars,” said coordinator Michelle Lowry. “Over the years we’ve heard how much visitors enjoy hands-on and visual presentations, but the exhibitors were limited to working within the confines of their booth. Now that’s changed with the availability of dedicated classroom space.”

Among those taking advantage of the new format will be Vern Johnston of Diving Dynamics who will be presenting on offshore commercial diving careers, while the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be providing nothing less than a visual “Tour of the Universe.”

More than 1,000 career-curious individuals from all over the Okanagan Valley attend the fair, which has become one of the most recognized career fairs in the B.C. Interior since it launched in 1981.

This also marks the first year the fair will be held in the bright open space of the campus’s Centre for Learning, which gives the fair a more modern flare.

“This has become a premium space for many events at the College,” Lowry said. “People like being in open spaces with natural light. It creates a social atmosphere, and the ability to view the atrium from the second floor gives higher profile to the exhibitors as well.”

The fair takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibitor fee is $200, which includes an optional one-hour presentation space, plus a complimentary lunch, followed by a reception.
