Thousands flock to Pumpkin-Fest

Rain and cool autumn temperatures didn’t frighten families from attending the Davison’s Orchards Family Pumpkin Fest over the weekend. Neither did the scarecrows lurking in the trees.
With Halloween fast-approaching, between 2000 and 3000 people from near and far flocked to the event to choose their pumpkins and enjoy the different activities and good food.
“It must be going over 15 years now (since the first pumpkin fest). It was one of the first events we did. We decided at the last minute to try a pumpkin fest and it was a huge success and we’ve been doing it ever since,” says Tamra Davison of Davison’s Orchards.
“The main event, of course, and family tradition for many, is the pumpkin ride. That’s a ride on the Johnny Popper Apple train out to the pumpkin patch and they can pick a pumpkin. There’s literally thousands of them to choose from, every size, every shape.”
But children aren’t the only ones to enjoy the event, adults took advantage of the barbeque and seasonal sweets on offer, including caramel apples and hot cider.
“We’ve got all kinds of pumpkin things. Everything from pumpkin pie to pumpkin fudge to pumpkin steamers to pumpkin tarts. We’ve got lots of things pumpkin,” says Davison.
Every weekend in October from 10-4pm, families can still pick out pumpkins at Davison’s, including Friday October 19th, which is a Pro-D day.
“This is actually our fifth year coming here,” says Kamloops resident Laurie Thompson.
“The kids like the playground here. My son likes the tractor ride here so we take the tractor ride up to pick our pumpkins.”
They weren’t the only repeat visitors to the Family Pumpkin Fest either.
“We found out when my son was two years old about Davison’s Orchards and we have been coming every year since, and he’s now turning ten,” says Mrs. Higgs, of Kamloops.
“Every year we come for his birthday to get his pumpkin. It’s the most exciting part. It’s like let’s go get the pumpkin. We’ll do everything after. Pumpkin first.”
