Airfare taxes sky-high |
|
|
To the editor:
The taxes on airline fares is not like going grocery shopping when you get hit at the checkout counter with the HST.
The airline tax, in most cases, is more than the total published fare of the ticket.
I went back to Scotland in February 2012 and I was quoted $675 for return air fare, but when I went to pay for my ticket it was over $1300.
I thought that the airlines and travel agents were now compelled by law to tell you the total taxes that you will have to pay in any air fare tickets when you are talking with them about purchasing a ticket, and not when you go pay for your ticket.
