Silverbacks steal one from the Vipers
Oct 13, 2012 / 10:25 am
Jason Trott’s goal at 2:57 of the second overtime lifted the Salmon Arm Silverbacks to a 3-2 BCHL win over the visiting Vernon Vipers on Friday.
As the teams played three on three, Trott pounced on the rebound from a Shane Hanna shot to steal the victory.
Hanna also scored twice in the third period as the Silverbacks rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits.
Colton Sparrow opened the scoring for Vernon at 8:50 of the second period.
Hanna's first came on the power play at 6:12 of the third to make it 1-1.
After Aaron Hadley restored Vernon's lead just under four minutes later, Hanna tied it again when he put a rebound past a sprawling Austin Smith with just 10 second left.
A scramble ensued after a draw in the Viper zone and Hanna pounced on a puck knocked free by Alex Gillies.
"When we’re up by a goal with 10 seconds to play, we have to win that draw or at least tie up the Silverback and the puck,” says Viper's Assistant Coach Dave Robinson.
It was a tough loss for the Vernon, who had the edge in play in the first and third periods, but were stymied time and time again by Adam Clark.
The two teams now share fifth place in the Interior Division, each with nine points.
The Vipers are in Chilliwack tonight.
