Bernard Avenue slowly re-opening
A section of Bernard Avenue will re-open to traffic later today (Wednesday).
At 3 p.m., barricades will come down at Bernard Avenue and Ellis Street opening up the street to traffic and parking just west of St. Paul Street.
Utility replacement for phase one of the Bernard Avenue Revitalization project is complete with final streetscaping treatments from St. Paul to Ellis scheduled as part of Phase 3 beginning in the fall of 2013.
Minor traffic interruptions are still expected in the newly re-opened section to accommodate water tie-ins.
Other work such as installation of lighting, sidewalks and landscaping from St. Paul to Ellis are expected to be complete by early December.
The city maintains access to businesses, walkways and sidewalks is a priority.
Pedestrian crossings at St. Paul and Richter streets are permitted when safe. Traffic personnel are on hand to assist.
All transit routes into and out of the Queensway Transit Station will also continue as usual with minor downtown routing adjustments.
The other portion of Phase 1 between St. Paul and Richter streets is scheduled to be complete in early December.
Phase 2 of the 18 month project from Pandosy to Abbott streets will begin in February of next year.
