Toronto bus bound for NYC flips over

At least nine people have been taken to hospital after a chartered tour bus from Toronto overturned and slid down an embankment on an interstate exit ramp in northern New Jersey on Saturday morning.

New Jersey state police Sgt. Adam Grossman says several others were also treated at the scene. All the injuries were considered non-life threatening, with the majority suffering cuts, bruises and soreness. The driver of the bus told authorities he had a gash on his arm.

The commercial bus with Ontario licence plates rolled over onto its side while on the Interstate 80 exit ramp around 7:45 a.m. in Wayne, N.J., about 25 kilometres northwest of New York City.

The bus was carrying 57 passengers, Grossman said.

The crash caused some windows on the bus to shatter and the window frames pinned three people, who were later freed. Witnesses reported seeing passengers waiting along the side of the exit ramp while they were being treated and several people were seen wearing neck braces and loaded into ambulances.
