Kamloops RCMP are investigating a possible alcohol-related dump truck crash that sent a Westwold man to Royal Inland Hospital Monday night.

At about 7:50 p.m., the 55-year-old man’s dump truck and trailer unit rolled onto its side at the 390 exit of the East Trans Canada Highway near Lafarge and sustained significant damage.

Witnesses reported seeing the truck drift off the road and into the ditch.

The man had to be extricated from the cab using the jaws of life and was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with multiple cuts, abrasions, and head trauma. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

“The police investigation determined that alcohol was consumed by the driver prior to the crash,” says RCMP Sgt. Grant Learned. “Investigators are proceeding by way of a blood warrant, which would allow for the analyses of blood samples, taken from the driver while in the hospital, to determine the concentration of liquor in the driver’s system at the time of the crash.”

No charges have been laid.
