Penticton’s Dylan Burton helped the Junior B Summerland Steam pull off a close-call victory against the Kelowna Chiefs at Rutland Arena Sunday night.

The 19-year-old scored what would become the game winner late in the second period with help from defencemen Derek Grimm and Josh Dacosta, putting the Steam up 3-1.

Scott Renner, who had a goal and assist on the night, cut the lead to 3-2 with a powerplay goal following a tripping penalty midway through the third period, but the Chiefs couldn’t get the equalizer on Steam goaltender Connor Demleo, who turned aside 31 Chiefs’ shots.

Kenny Fitzgerald and Tyler O’Donnell split goaltending duties for the Chiefs, stopping 19 shots between the two of them.

Fitzgerald and the Chiefs shut out the Penticton Lakers the previous night at Rutland Arena with a 4-0 win.

Scott Renner netted two goals and first-star-of-the-game honours.

The Chiefs next face the first-place Osoyoos Coyotes at home October 5.
