If you missed it, YOU MISSED IT! Prospera Place was the place to be last night as John Fogerty brought his unique swamp rock/roots rock sound into Kelowna. Fogerty, now 67 years old, wasted no time getting the crowd on his side with an incredible stage setup that even featured pyrotechnics in the first 20-30 seconds and playing "Born on the Bayou" as his second song of the night.
With a massive arsenal of guitars (easily ten or more guitar changes throughout the whole show), Fogerty did a great job of mixing CCR favourites like “Down on the Corner” and “Proud Mary” with his solo hits like “Centerfield” to keep the almost capacity crowd clapping, dancing and singing along. The show was really brought to the next level about one hour into the over two hour event when “Midnight Special” and “Lodi” were played back to back making it almost impossible to not sing along.
Fogerty, an always humble rock star, would genuinely thank the crowd after each song for singing along and for those fans in the nose-bleeds there were even spotlights shaped like X’s and O’s that would flash after each and every song. Although the venue was quite large, Fogerty did a great job of making everything feel very intimate and even shared some great stories with the crowd about Woodstock and his children and how they inspired many of his songs.
With an audience ranging in age from 10-100 this show proved to everyone that John Fogerty is just as relevant today as he was in the 70’s and maybe even more so. With no signs of slowing down and his new album, “Wrote a Song for Everyone” set to be released in the new year I am sure that he and his band will be back in Kelowna soon to get all the true rockers to once again pile back into Prospera Place, fill the arena with that wonderful aroma of a currently illegal substance and sing along with one of the few remaining rock ‘n roll legends.
