Letters to the editor

To serve and protect...and pay

To the editor:

As a Veteran I would like to comment on the article about the federal government spending $750,000 fighting the claw back issue on Veterans pensions.

First of all since the pension for the Military was established back in 1966, to date successive governments have used approximately 18 billion dollars of Veterans pensions surplus.  Yes the surplus.  All military, RCMP are required to pay to help cover the costs of our pensions.

So if anyone should get the idea that this $750K will come out of your tax dollars you are being misled.

The present government has not used any of our surplus funds but over the years both the Liberals and PC governments did so.

We, unlike our Federal MPs, paid for our pensions out of our own pockets, if you take into consideration the time frame and how much governments have used of our pension surplus for the betterment of all Canadians.

Yes folks your RCMP and Military not only served to protect our country but also our funds were used to pay down the debt and other items as seen fit by governments.
