Okanagan Rockets visit Nanaimo
Sep 28, 2012 / 5:00 am
It will be an early season battle for first place in the BC Major Midget Hockey League as the Okanagan Rockets head to Nanaimo this weekend to take on the undefeated North Island Silvertips on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and Sunday morning at 10:30.
The Rockets enter the weekend one point behind the Silvertips after taking three of a possible four points from the Vancouver NE Chiefs.
They opened the season at home with a 5-5 tie last Saturday, then edged the Chiefs 6-5 on Sunday.
Vernon's Spencer Hewson, with three goals and an assist in the season opening weekend, led the way for the Rockets and sits seventh overall in league scoring with four points.
Meanwhile, the Silvertips knocked off Kootenay by scores of 5-1 and 10-2 to open their season with a pair of wins.
North Island features three of the league's top five scores after their onslaught against Kootenay.
The Rockets return home to the Capital News Centre October 6 and 7 when they host former Rockets goalie Harrison Whitlock and the Kootenay Ice.
