Hammer attack victim dies of injuries
Murder charges are expected to be filed against Conor Frederick Grossmith.
Grossmith, 24, was initially charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Weapon and Aggravated Assault after it is alleged he attacked his mother with a hammer on September 13.
Kate Gilchrist, 57, died as a result of her injuries Saturday evening at Kelowna General Hospital.
RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says RCMP will be recommending the charge be amended.
"We'll be making a call to Crown recommending that be amended from attempted murder to murder," says Clark.
He was unable to say whether police would be recommending a charge of first or second degree.
The attack occurred about 9 p.m. in the family home on Mission Springs Drive.
The flag at Okanagan College is at half mast today in Gilchrist's memory. She worked in the college's ESL department.
