Drivers traveling the Vernon to Kelowna route should be vigilant on the roads right now.

Vernon RCMP continue to see high speeds on the highway and they are taking action.

Tuesday morning a male driver traveling to Vernon was stopped near Bailey Road for going 141k in a 90 zone and had his vehicle impounded. Anything over 41k above the speed limit and the vehicle will be impounded and a fine will be issued. 

“When asked why he was doing it (speeding) he said he was going to be late for work, so I think he’s going to be later," said Vernon RCMP Gord Molendyk.

“With the beautiful weather the speeds are continuing to stay high.”

Over this past weekend alone an officer encountered five drivers that were just 2 or 3 kilometres shy of have having their vehicles impounded for seven days.

“Police want to remind drivers that they need to slow down. It’s that time of year when we can start to encounter frost in certain areas, especially in the morning hours. We’re not far from that, we had snow in our area last week. We need to be cognizant that seasons are changing and, again, safety is paramount.”
