Cops for Kids riders come home

The Cops for Kids ride came to an end Sunday afternoon when the team completed their final leg of the 10 day journey, arriving at Orchard Park Mall around 12:15.

The team of 21 cycled across the southern interior in order to raise money for children in medical, physical or traumatic crisis.

The riders were welcomed by a large crowd, including family and friends as they pulled in under sunny skies.  They were also welcomed by a number of dignitaries, including Kelowna Councillor Maxine DeHart and MLAs Steve Thomson and Norm Letnick.

It was a spectacular end to the sometimes gruelling journey which saw the team conquer steep inclines and some rough weather along the way.

“We were pedalling up the Paulson summit when the rain started to pour. As the legs were burning, each rider started to think of all the kids who will benefit from our short term pain,” says Rider and President Gail Harrison.

“These children face uphill challenges every day. I know our legs will feel better after some rest, but these children don’t always have that option.”

Funds raised from this event go to support the purchase of much needed medical equipment, learning and mobility aids for local children.

The riders all expressed their thanks for the generosity shown by all of the communities they visited.

“Our riders join us from across the region, and these are some of the most hard-working people in law enforcement today. Each rider has raised a minimum of $2,000 in order to be a part of the ride," says Ride Captain, Julio Krenz.

"During the ride, local community groups, restaurants, and hotels generously extend their hospitality to our team.  Saving on these costs allows us to put all of our efforts towards the children. Not only have we enjoyed some delicious meals and welcoming hospitality, we’ve made some new friends along the way too.”
