There were many grads from OKM who recognized the faces in this picture taken just before Kelowna's first Terry Fox run in 1980.

After compiling your many emails, 12 of the 14 people have been identified, although not everyone was in agreement.

I remember it was freezing cold and wet and the run went right by our farm, before Gordon Drive went through and everything was renamed, so it used to be a big corner where Paret Road turned and joined up to Lakeshore Road.

I was so tempted to turn in the driveway and run home instead  to get warm but we all finished it.  Most of the girls were part of the fieldhockey team at that time and I recall we got to skip practice because we were involved in the run.  

I also recall that it was in the days before “running” shoes were different than any other sport shoes and I think I ran the whole thing in canvas converse allstars and others did similar. 

We were the first grads to go all the way grade 8-12 in the new school so we were pretty keen to get involved in anything and Bernie Monteleone was a great promoter of fitness and community events. 

I don’t think we realized then that it would still be going today!

Registration for Sunday's run begins at 10:00 a.m., with the event starting at 11:00 a.m.

You can walk, run, or ride your choice of 1.5, 5 or 9 km loops. There's no entry fee and what you donate actually goes to cancer research.
