Letters to the editor
Bus driver anything but heroic |

To the editor:
An open letter to the motorists of Kelowna, students of School District 23 and their parents.
As some of you may be aware, there was an incident involving a school bus and a motorist at the corner of Richter St. and Raymer Ave. on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
A school bus driver observed a vehicle speeding through a school zone and without regard for the safety of the students on board, attempted to slow the vehicle down by crossing the yellow line and activating his flashing red lights and stop signs.
The motorist then followed the bus to Kelowna Senior Secondary School, boarded the bus and assaulted the school bus driver in a fit of road rage.
There was a story on Castanet the following day that suggested the bus drivers actions were somehow heroic.
Let me say clearly, the actions of the bus driver were anything but heroic.
I would like to make it very clear to all motorists, students and their parents that S.D. 23 drivers do not condone this kind of reckless behaviour from any bus driver, at any time, regardless of the circumstances.
S.D. 23 drivers are a very well trained, professional group of drivers. The number 1 objective is to get all students to school SAFELY ever morning and home safely every afternoon.
What this particular driver did was foolhardy, and put his students in very grave danger. |
