Peachland Fire
Fire containment increases
The Peachland Fire is now 75 per cent contained.
"Thanks to a break in the weather and diligent efforts made by firefighting personnel, the fire northwest of Peachland is now 75 per cent contained. The fire is still estimated at 200 hectares in size and there was no significant growth (yesterday)," reports Michaela Swan, fire information officer with the Wildfire Management Branch.
Resources on site have included over 150 personnel, six helicopters and two water trucks. Airtankers dropped retardant on an inaccessible section of the fire earlier today. As well, two sustained action crews and members of the local fire department remained on site throughout the night.
Swan says, "The fire behaviour has remained a low vigour surface fire with little open flame, allowing crews to continue making good progress."
An evacuation order remains in place for some residents affected by this wildfire, as well as an evacuation alert for some residents in the Peachland area. For more information on evacuations click here.
The cause of this wildfire remains under investigation.
