Concern is being raised over the viability of a company offering discount coupons through a variety of Okanagan merchants.
Cray Harris recently signed up to join GoSango, formerly known as Twongo, and purchased a discount coupon on-line for a Kelowna boat rental company.
The trouble is, when he booked a rental with the company, they wold not honour the coupon he had purchased through GoSango, despite receiving confirmation from the company.
"They send you a confirmation and then you print off a voucher," says Harris.
"So I booked it and I went down there and she (the rental place) says to me 'we're not going to accept it.' She says we've been told by the GoSango rep that the company isn't going to pay us."
Harris also claims the boat rental company told him they were out a considerable amount of money.
If true, they join a list other companies raising concerns.
Barb Redlick is the owner of Little Rascals Pony Parties & Petting Zoo, and she says her experience with GoSango has been less than favourable.
"Well they owe me money and they didn't pay me," says Redlick.
"They did a GoSango coupon in mid-June for me. And through numerous emails and excuses saying 'we're going through restructuring and we're waiting for money,' they haven't paid."
Redlick says the last correspondence she received from the company was August 10, promising to settle her account within two weeks.
"Two weeks came and went and I didn't get any money."
Little Rascals only purchased 24 coupons and Redlick says they are honouring the discounts.
"It's not the consumers fault. I hired the company, they owe me the money. The consumer paid for it so its not their fault so I'm honouring mine. I'm sure there will be some places out there that can't do that, or won't do that, because they can't afford it."
So far, Redlick has not been paid for even one of the coupons.
"Nope, I've never gotten a phone call, just emails with excuses, and they don't pay."
Other companies have expressed their frustrations on-line.
The Hungry Chef tweeted "As we have not been paid, we will no longer be able to accept GoSango coupons Contact GoSango for more info."
Two other business owners also tweeted that they have not been paid by the company for sold coupons.
On their Facebook page, GoSango is still offering a variety of deals, and boast almost 4,000 "likes," although one post stated "not sure I want to buy anymore of these deals until I know they are going to be honoured. Hope you guys get the troubles fixed soon."
On the other hand, one Lawrence Avenue merchant who wished to remain anonymous told Castanet that they had just signed up with GoSango and had no complaints so far, although they did say to check back in a month.
GoSango did not returned our calls.
