Letters to the editor

Cemetary lacking care

To the editor:

I buried my son at the West Kelowna Cemetery two months ago because I live in Shannon Lake and as I am an old age pensioner who does not drive very much this was supposed to be very convenient for my family and I to visit with my son without having to travel to Kelowna or any other great distance

The graveyard unfortunately, is a disgrace and in a sad state of neglect.

The cemetery is not just a place where we bury and visit with our loved ones but also a historical part of the history of the Westside, the early pioneer families and there are some headstones that are pretty close to one hundred years old and should be preserved and treated with respect as they are part of our history in this area.

I go up to visit and talk with my son at least three times a week during the week and on week-ends over the past couple of months and I have yet to see any West Kelowna regional employees there doing any work or improvements.

Also this summer I gave directions to some of my son's friends from out of town who wanted to go visit with him and they still had a hard time finding the cemetery as it is not posted on the main street.

So come on Mayor and the rest of the council  lets do something, and soon, regarding this serious problem that needs fixing.
