Three British Columbia athletes earned medals for Canada on Saturday at the Paralympic Games in London.

Nanoose Bay's Michelle Stilwell led the way, capturing gold in the women's 200-metre (T52) track event with a time of 33.80 seconds, setting a new Paralympic record in the process.

Belgium won the silver medal and the U.S. claimed bronze.

Stilwell is a veteran Paralympic champion. She won gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games in both the 100 and 200 metres.

She also won a gold medal in wheelchair basketball at the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney.

Brianna Nelson of Saanich, won a silver medal in the women's 50-metre butterfly (S7) with a time of 36.07 seconds.

Australia won gold and China took bronze.

This is Nelson's second appearance at a Paralympic Games and her first medal.

Maple Ridge's Nathan Stein also won a silver in the pool.

In his first Paralympic Games, he was edged out by a Brazilian swimmer in the men's 50-metre freestyle (S10) with a time of 23.58 seconds. Australia won the bronze.

The results left Canada with three gold, four silver and one bronze so far at the games.
