To the editor:
Re: Cost of living in the Okanagan.
The response was typical and very upsetting, sure they had an open spot that would fit my qualifications, but the actual comment made by the company was that I will have to pay the "sunshine tax" to live in the Okanagan.
I don't understand why this isn't more of an openly debated topic of discussion because it's something that all people are faced with when looking for a job here.
It's not that companies make any less money here than companies in Vancouver, the company I work for now after my thorough job search, allows me to make about $20k more than when I worked in Vancouver, but the size definitely makes a difference since I went from a company of 150 employee's to a company of 4,000 and this company is know for their reputation for profit sharing and employee growth, so I got lucky!
I would like to know where this "tax" began and why it's so popular?
