To the editor:
Re: At least wear a mask.
I work in health care and have had my flu shot, and some years have also decided against a flu shot.
It doesn't matter, flu shot or not, I still get sick.
The flu shot helps prevent "influenza" but does not prevent the average cold, or stomach flu which is the most common sickness running through our health-care facilities.
I don't agree with coming to work sick, but I also don't agree with having to wear a mask only because you decided to opt out of the flu shot.
I have in the past worn a mask because I've had the sniffles, but I refuse to wear a mask if I'm well and not in a state where I will be spreading germs.
Not only have I gotten more sick in the years I've gotten the flu shot, but I've gotten extremely sick because I did get the flu shot and end up being out of commission for 4-5 days afterwards.
I understand we work with those that have low immune systems, but it doesn't give anyone the right to say "hey, you have to wear a mask because you didn't get the flu shot."
We are putting ourselves at risk and exposing ourselves to many different things working in these facilities, patients are not the only ones at risk.
