Letters to the editor

Extra labelling not required

To the editor:

Re: Why not label everything

Alcohol, if consumed appropriately, and not abused, will cause no harm to your body.

In fact, red wine, in moderation, has many health benefits.

Tobacco products, on the other hand, cause detrimental health problems whether or not they are abused.  Add to that the fact that they are highly addictive.

As a smoker, I can tell you how addictive they are.

I like to have a drink now and then, but I can certainly take it or leave it, as I am not an alcoholic.  Everyone who smokes can or will become addicted.

Everyone who drinks will not become an alcoholic.

Same thing with soft drinks.

Common sense says if you drink half a dozen a day, you’re going to have health problems.

The point of the labelling is to make people who are thinking of smoking to think twice before taking up the habit.
