The BC midget baseball team got off to a winning start at the Canadian Junior Baseball Championships by doubling up Quebec 6-3.

Colin Rintoul had two hits to lead the Jays to an opening day win over the host team from Trois Rivieres at Midget Municipal Stadium on Thursday.

Quebec couldn't get anything going against starter Brandon Kirk. Kirk held Quebec hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out none.

Frederick Fauteux was the game's losing pitcher. He went 3 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

BC will face Manitoba on Friday, then play a pair of games on Saturday. They open the day against Ontario then finish up the round robin portion of the tournament against New Brunswick.

The top two teams in each division make the playoff rounds which commence Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m., PDT.
