Crack down hard on speeders |
|
|
To the editor:
I am all for the permanent loss of a vehicle when a person is caught racing and not just speeding.
These people need to be taught a lesson. If they want to race on the streets of Kelowna there should be no tolerance toward them.
On a first offence of street racing the vehicle should be permanently impounded. The fines are not enough as can be seen from chronic offenders.
Fines should start at $1000 and go up from there.
As well as fining drivers there should be a fine for advertisers who promote fast cars on streets.
Don't just single out the drivers, advertising and ego are pushing the flow.
If you want to drive fast don't do it on the street.
Learn how to handle a vehicle on a closed track with racing conditions and then do it there not on the street. Young and old drivers need to take out their frustrations in other constructive ways.
I have been a driver for over forty years and have had and worked on many high performance vehicles. The streets are no place to learn how to handle such a vehicle.
Do it on a race track under controlled conditions. If there is a malfunction or operator error the only person that will be hurt is the driver.
There will not be any innocent bystanders hurt of killed by senseless drivers.
