A 35-year-old Calgary man who admitted to consuming a 'large quantity' of alcohol before getting behind the wheel of his vehicle will be returning to the Okanagan for a later court date.

The man, on vacation in the Okanagan, was arrested after witnesses say he crashed his Audi Q7 into several vehicles.

The driver tried to flee on foot, but he was apprehended by several witnesses and held for police.

The man was taken to the Kelowna RCMP Detachment for breath samples.

Cst. Kris Clark says the man refused to blow after initially stating he would provide a sample.

Clark says the man was held in custody until he sobered up then released on a Promise to Appear.

Anyone with information regarding the incident who has not spoken with police are asked to contact Cst. Ken Hall in West Kelowna at 250-768-2880.
