Hey, I Remember That One!
Aug 3, 2012 / 7:00 am
He is serious, and he is talented… I recently got in touch with Kelowna’s Rann Berry to see how things are coming along with the “One Hit Wonders”.
Well, they are more than ready for their World Premier at the Kelowna Community Theatre on August 10th. This is not just a ‘one-off’ show; this is a Vegas-revue style concert performance extraordinaire. A showcase of song, dance and music by some of the most talented musicians from the Kelowna area, and here is some of how it all started:
We have to go back two or so years, when Rann started to form the concept:
RANN: I've always loved music from the 60's and 70s. The music so many of us (Baby Boomers) grew up with. I'd been looking for an original theme for this type of Vegas style review and was surprised to find that a tribute to all the great "One Hit Wonder" bands and artists didn't seem to exist. I've been developing the show for over 2 years now. A lot of thought went in to choosing the songs I felt would resonate best with the audience. It really does take people back to their youth. "The songs you forgot you love" is one of our slogans.
Not only did he obviously put a lot of thought into this Revue, music wise, he also took his time with the assembling of the musicians, which include: Justin Glibbery on Keys and Vocals; Mike Jervis, lead guitar and vocals; and Scott Gamble on Drums and Vocals - just a few of the nine-piece ensemble that will generate all those familiar but perhaps forgotten songs.
And what about those ‘one hit wonders’, what does Rann have up his sleeve?
RANN: The songs featured in the show all fall into that magical period between 1965 and 1975, all great memorable songs, many of which were redone by artists such as Glen Campbell, BJ Thomas and even Elvis.
The show includes stories and facts about the songs and original artists.
So not only can we look forward to a most pleasing concert, but we will experience a musical history lesson as well, obviously set to music with some interesting anecdotes on the numbers themselves. The ‘One Hit Wonders’ band also includes two dancers: Lucy Hazelwood and Ashley Kendel, just another magical detail that hasn’t been over looked by the man Rann!
Mr. Berry also told me some great news. Yes, the World Premier is in Kelowna, however:
RANN- For now we are in the process of booking the show into theaters throughout B.C. and Washington.
So! A possible tour looks like it is shaping up! “Rann Berry and The One Hit Wonders” may be arriving at a theatre near you! And let’s hope so!!
