Wilson Landing fire jumps fire guard

Update: 7:30 a.m. July 30 - Strong down slope winds and aggressive fire behaviour is responsible for challenging the guards around the fire near Wilson's Landing, Sunday night.

The blaze is estimated to be 30 hectares in size and has spread down toward Westside Road.

The road is closed from Bear Main Forest Service Road at the south through to Jenny Creek subdivision at Browse Road to the north.

There are currently four initial attack crews on site and 43 firefighters are on route along with air tankers and additional helicopters.

Fire information officer, Michaela Swan, says the fire was being watched Sunday night.

"Due to the extreme slope and the terrain that the fire is on, it's really not safe for our guys to be up on the hill. Right now crews are conducting a burn-off operation adjacent to Westside Road, so they are trying to use the road as a natural fire guard."

Castanet will have more information as it becomes available.

People who were put on alert took Castanet on a boat trip to look at the fire.
