New Lady of the Lake crowned
Jul 23, 2012 / 3:03 pm
Friday night at the Kelowna Community Theatre, the seven contestants vying for the Lady of the Lake crown waited for the news that would dramatically change two of their lives for the upcoming year.
Since beginning the Lady of the Lake program in March, the girls have been spending their Mondays in training sessions on various topics, from public speaking, self-defense, tourism, local history, and more.
The candidates have also gone through several judged events that include public speaking, area knowledge, an etiquette dinner, speech and talent night, fashion show, judged interviews, and a volunteering essay.
The annual Pageant night included a dance number, sponsor presentation, farewell speeches of reigning ambassadors, and awards presentations. Miss Kelowna 2011 Alexandra Burnham also treated the crowd to a performance of her comedic one-woman show.
As the final judged event, the girls were asked an impromptu question about a current issue facing residents of Kelowna. All seven girls had to think on their feet, and each came up with an excellent answer to some rather difficult queries. Capping off the evening was the crowning of Miss Kelowna and Miss Kelowna Princess.
The new Miss Kelowna Princess is Jade Cowan, and the new Miss Kelowna is Navjot Takhar!
Huge congratulations to Nav and Jade, as well as to all the girls for their hard work.
As Miss Kelowna and Miss Kelowna Pricess, Nav and Jade will have a full year of events to attend as they represent our city.
