Two arrested in St. Amand arson

Two individuals with an association to a home on St. Amand Road have been charged with arson in connection with a fire at the home Saturday night.

Witnesses in the vicinity of 3250 St. Amand Road say they watched two individuals smash a truck and then set the back of the garage on fire shortly before midnight Saturday.

Police apprehended two suspects, a 19-year-old male and a 14-year-old youth, a short time later.

RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says the attack was not random.

"There is some association with the tenants and the two individuals," says Clark.

"The individuals were known to the tenants."

Clark says it's too early in the investigation to determine what that association was and what the beef, if any, there was between the parties.

He says the unidentified 19-year-old had just recently moved to Kelowna.

Clark adds the man's name will likely not be released to protect the identity of the young offender.

Both have been released with conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

Two vehicles and the carport were fully engulfed when fire crews arrived on the scene.

The fire quickly spread to the house.

Witnesses at the scene told Castanet News quick response by fire crews prevented any further damage from occurring,
