Surprise hazard at waterpark |

To the editor:
10 days ago I wrote a letter to the District of West Kelowna pointing out a very serious hazard that needs to be addressed.
That same day they responded that they had received my letter and passed it on to the appropriate department however I have yet to hear anything further.
My family lives in West Kelowna. We were thrilled at the recent opening of the new West Kelowna water park and have already used it many times this summer.
On July 8, we were visiting the water park.
Our 13 month old was walking barefoot on the grass and accidentally walked across the large metal checker plate access hatch in the ground which is positioned within 15 feet or so of the edge of the water park.
Screaming from the searing pain she fell over and sustained burns to her legs. That day temperatures reached 30+ degrees.
This metal plate was so hot it was like having a giant iron on the ground just waiting for someone to step on it. This is a popular venue and it is just a matter of time before someone gets much more seriously injured than my daughter.
I am sure that the District of West Kelowna will address this issue but as time ticks by with no word from them and with the warm weather here, I want to warn people to please be aware so that this doesn’t happen again.
