UPDATE 8 P.M. THURSDAY JULY 19: Power was restored to homes in Peachland and West Kelowna shortly before 8 p.m.

-----------------------

Original Story:

Power is not expected to be restored to a large chunk of Peachland and West Kelowna until 8 p.m. this evening (Thursday).

Initial estimates were 4 p.m.

The power outage has affected 3,817 homes in Peachland and 24 homes in West Kelowna.

The affected area can be viewed on the BC Hydro website.

West Kelowna RCMP say a tree was cut down and it landed on the power lines.

The incident happened on Broadview Rd. in West Kelowna, it appears the tree also landed on at least one vehicle.

A witness reports there are three hydro trucks on the road, and an ambulance was in the area. The road is also blocked off.

Power is off to residents around the Broadview area of West Kelowna and to some homes in Peachland.

Due to the power outage, an immediate boil water advisory has been issued for residents of Peachland.

The situation will be reassessed once the power comes back on.
