Speed limits not a guidline |

To the editor:
It's about time people of Kelowna got the message that the Speed Limits and Traffic Lights are not a guideline, and need to be obeyed, and it's no wonder greater Kelowna has one of the worst accident ratio's of any city in BC, and it’s getting worse.
We only have one entity that can control this, and that is the Police. However, general duty police don't have radar capability, nor do they have the time [ and from my understanding the training ] to enforce traffic laws, rather, it's downloaded to a special agency of the RCMP, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Every police officer should have the ability and means to nail those who obsessively disobey the traffic rules, thus putting the general public at risk every time they get into their vehicle.
There's a ton of money going into the Liberal Coffers from traffic fines every day, which is likely diverted to their "special projects", like "damage control and propaganda and their own wage increases" rather than where it should be going, and that is for public safety.
We see it everyday. Count how many motorcycles you see driving like idiots, weaving in and out of traffic at speeds only an idiot would go, and then, when they almost crash, blame the other guy, and they are NOT the minority.
Or, how many people totally ignore Emergency Vehicles trying to get to a call. It's like they haven't got a clue what to do - perhaps they missed that section of the book and didn't get tested on it either, or become abusive to those who actually obey the speeds because they are being blocked from their chronic addiction for speed.
I live on Clifton Rd., and there is a dangerous hill with blind driveways, children waiting for school buses, joggers, pedestrians, pets, wild deer, etc., and few sidewalks and narrow shoulders. Idiots drive by my place at excessive speeds, we all complain, and yet we see next to no results because Traffic Services has more than just Kelowna to cover.
Perhaps when a child gets splattered into a tree or ground up under the wheels of one of these idiots vehicles, will anyone take notice? Probably not.
In Alberta, they use the Sheriff's Dept. for highway patrol, so the police can do what they are suppose to be doing, and that's enforcing the laws in their jurisdictions.
Perhaps it's time Kelowna began to seriously consider a Municipal Police Force - one that works for our interests, not the Provincial and Federal Governments.
