CRIME: ARSON

DATE: June 30, 2012

RCMP FILE: 2012-33124

Kelowna RCMP have confirmed that a fire that resulted in the evacuation of over 200 guests at the Capri Hotel at 1:30 AM on June 30 was arson. Two separate fires were ignited in the hotel; one in the sixth floor stairwell and another in a storage room on the seventh floor. The majority of damage was caused by the seventh floor blaze; however the stairwell fire could have resulted in the loss of lives if guests would have been prevented from escaping the fire.
