Letters to the editor

West Kelowna fire department too big?

To the editor:

There must be a lot of fires in West Kelowna that we mere mortal taxpayers just don't hear about.

Maybe a serial arsonist is lurking about!

Why else In the five years since the transition from the regional district to a municipality, have we gone from two or three salaried firemen (with volunteers of course), to over 40?

Most of them raking in 75 grand plus. What changed to necessitate this? Exactly what are 40 firemen doing now that used to be done by a few?

Sure there are more people now, but unless the Westside population has grown from 30,000 to 1.2 million, and the dormant Mt. Boucherie volcano is coming out of retirement, this seems extreme!

The small group that used to protect us must have been highly efficient.
