A Mexican citizen in Canada on a work visa is behind bars accused in a stabbing in Summerland late Sunday night.

Police say they received a report of a stabbing at a home on Giants Head Road in Summerland shortly before midnight on Canada Day.

There, police discovered a man laying on the floor of the home with a non-life threatening stab wound to his upper back.

The victim was transported to hospital in Penticton for treatment.

A number of officers and police dogs conducted a search of the area, however, the suspect was not located.

The following day, acting on a tip, a suspect was identified and arrested without incident.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court sometime on Tuesday.
