Public sector wages out of hand

To the editor:

RE: I Didn't know that

OK here we go. Nothing but whining.

When the economy was booming the private sector was making money hand over fist.

Nonetheless, the private sector was still complaining about public sector wages.

The raises the public sector received during that time were not even close to those the private sector made during the boom. Did you honestly think the glory days would last forever ?

Still, the private sector in BC enjoys one of the lowest business tax rates in Canada. Should we raise our business taxes to help pay for all the unemployment you speak of?

I don't think so, at least not my taxes.

Reading daily about how governments continue to shovel more money at government employees is disturbing.

What government are you reading about. Have you heard of the BC government's "Net Zero" policy ?

The only government workers getting money shovelled at them are the MLA's and the people in the BC Liberal's pocket.

Government workers consistently receive much higher salaries and generous benefits than the workers in the private sector for similar work done.

I think if you asked a teacher they might see things a little different. Why don't you go do 5-7 years of University, train continually to do your best and then let everyone know how overpaid you are.

Many government workers are highly educated and provide us with a extremely valuable service. You seem to think they should work and provide these services for next to nothing.

Mr. Thompson, the private sector you speak of must  understand the basic principle of "you get what you pay for".

It sounds to me like the private sector you know (not the one I know) is one that wants everyone to suffer for their own lack of planning and down turn of the economy.
