Is dying a right? |

|
To the editor:
Frankly, I never considered dying a "right."
Dying is all part of the "living" process. Just like the sun rises and the sun sets, it's more a transition than a right.
I look at assisted passing as a compassionate, unselfish act.
I don't endorse killing either, but I should have the right to choose if I want to live as a vegetable or not and put my family through what could be years of agony.
You should not have the right to make that decision for me. Who's playing God now?
I would hardly define assisting a person to have a peaceful, painless passing a failed society. Quite the contrary, it is an act of mercy.
You may be a believer but not everybody is, including me.
If there is a loving God, then I would think he'd certainly not mind having one of his children go peacefully and painlessly at the hand of a compassionate physician.
So if you want to put your family through the agony of an extended dying process, you have that choice.
But don't lay a guilt trip on me with religion and don’t make that decision for me.
